“Knowledge management training should be made a priority at all levels. Knowledge management and institutional learning must become not only a responsibility, but also a culture.” Jamie Metzl, Georgetown Journal of International Affairs

Why does your organization need Knowledge Management training and how will Knowledge Management certification improve organizational performance?
It is known that a significant number of knowledge management efforts fail simply because there was no knowledge management strategy. Absent that knowledge management strategy, those implementing knowledge management are left to determine on their own what knowledge management issues are most critical to the organization. This usually results in less than effective results because of a lack of “big picture” approach that fails to ensure that KM efforts work in concert with other organizational efforts. Properly implemented (“done right”) knowledge management can lead to significant organizational improvements and can become the “spark” for organizational learning and innovation.

Because it is known that a significant percentage of KM implementation efforts fail due to a lack of effective knowledge management strategy and planned implementation, it is critical to ensuring that the knowledge management implementation efforts are successful that those charged with implemention of KM understand how to effectively link KM to improved organizational performance. The problem is of course, that if knowledge management and its implementation were intuitive and if any approach would always work there would be no knowledge management implementation failures.
The key then is to ensure that the knowledge management training received best supports your organization's ability to successfully utilize knowledge management to close its performance gaps. Those gaps represent not only the difference between current and desired levels of organizational performance, but also between current and required levels of knowledge (creation, transfer, utilization). This can be done by ensuring that the knowledge management training received best addresses how to create knowledge management strategy which drives improved organizational performance.

And that's why our knowledge management certification workshop is different -- because it addresses how to close those critical gaps.

Benefits of Our Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM)™ Certification Workshop
The intent of this knowledge management certification workshop is to address those issues critical to strategic knowledge management and then present how best practice organizations use this approach to:
Create, transfer and utilize knowledge and intellectual capital.
Manage creation, accumulation and flow of knowledge and intellectual capital to develop and sustain competitive advantage and provide desired “Knowledge Value-Added” gains.
Understand the concepts, principles and actions necessary to implement a strategy-based approach to KM -- “Strategic Knowledge Management”) that serves as the basis of our knowledge management certification workshop.

Foster a knowledge-based culture that drives and supports organizational learning and innovation. Organizations that lack that ability to learn and to innovate will be outperformed by those that do.

Understanding the Benefits of
KM Certification Training
Making the right decision regarding the type of knowledge management certification or knowledge management training it is important because it will significantly impact the type of “credential” that will be issued upon completion of the training.
KM Certification: KM Certification is granted under the authority of a professional society and its certification board. A KM certification granted by that professional society signifies that the individual is certified to meet certain standards or competencies as prescribed by the professional society. And this separates KM certification from other types of KM training such as those that issue a “completion certificate.”.
KM Certification Credential: Although sometimes confusing, a professional knowledge management “certification” provides a “credential” while a knowledge management “certificate” simply indicates that the attendee has met the basic requirements of the course. When an individual has received a KM certification they are then entitled to use the appropriate designation (e.g., “CKM”) as a part of their name/title. Other KM training or even KM training which results in awarding of a certificate does not confer this right to use a designation.
Awarding of KM Certification: Knowledge management certifications should be awarded by a third-party, standard-setting organization, such as a non-profit professional society and backed by a recognized KM certification authority/board. The Knowledge Management Certification Board (KMCB)® is the most widely accepted certification authority in the knowledge management community. If it is important to you that your KM credential is widely accepted, then ensure that it is issued by a recognized non-profit professional society such as KMPro which is the world's largest KM professional society.
